Stoughton Recreation’s Pre-Playground program is run inside the South School separate from Open Playground. Pre-Playground is a structured program led by counselors that focus on creativity and the power of play. Our goal is to challenge and educate all children in the most beneficial way through arts and crafts, outdoor and indoor games and special events

Pre-Playground is limited to approximately 10 children per classroom per week. The program will take place inside classrooms in the South School and this allows up to keep a strict ratio of 1:5 of child to counselor. Spaces may fill very quickly so please plan accordingly. This program does not include a sibling discount, and does not receive a t-shirt.

Children MUST be fully potty trained (child can go to the bathroom without any help, no exceptions) to join the program. The Pre-Playground classrooms are a PEANUT/TREE NUT-FREE zone. Please note there are no refunds after the first day of the program.

If you have a 6 year old that is entering kindergarten and are unable to register on the site, please email or call us and we will help you register.


There is NO After Playground for Pre-Playground. All participants must be picked up by 2:30 pm. Children must be of age by the start of the program.

Please note: Refunds or credits will not be issued within 24 business hours of the program start time, and programs will not be pro-rated for missed classes. Participants may be eligible for a refund or account credit on a case by case basis prior to the first day of a program. Any approved cancellations resulting in a refund will incur a 5% cancellation fee, unless the cancellation of the program is initiated by the Recreation Department. In the event that the minimum registration requirement is not met, the program will be canceled. In such instances, participants will receive a full refund, and notification of the cancellation will be sent via email.
